Glass Shelves

There are tons of different types of shelves available in the contemporary shelving market this day and age, however some of them aren’t as good as others. The ideal glass shelf unit is absolutely invisible. The reason for this? It looks fantastic. Whatever you decide to put on the shelf appears to be floating in midair! However you need to be careful when you are looking for home office shelving of this type, because if you don’t do your diligent research ahead of time you may be out of luck.

Lots of manufactures will make shelving units that are either clear glass or frosted glass, but they may not actually be what you are looking for. That is because they may not be true bracketless shelves. If you end up getting a glass shelf that happens to have quite gawdy and ugly brackets on it, then there’s no point to getting one made out of glass now is there!

The manufactures will do this because this genre of shelves sell very quickly (everyone wants to look stylish and like they live in a Manhattan loft), but building a bracket that is virtually invisible (i.e. glass frames) can be difficult to do if you want it to support any actual weight. Basically, just make sure that you thoroughly research the market before making a purchase as shelves made out of glass tend to be pricier (because they simply look better!)

Even better than traditional glass shelves are ones that are actually corner shelf units. They look very cool and snug, especially when they are tucked away holding a plant or some decorative object that looks like it has invisible wires holding it up. Guests will ooh and ah at your style and praise you for your creative design. You can go wrong with them. Trust me.

The one thing you want to watch out for with a corner shelving unit is to make sure that it fits. These normally have to be custom made. While this tends to be more on the pricier side it is well worth it. You can get glass shelves cut to size at most hardware stores or window stores. You may have to figure out how to mount it but if you can get your invisible shelf floating on your wall it will look absolutely superb!

Lastly but certainly not the least, if you are going for custom glass units then you may want to search for glass shelves in the UK. The Brits tend to have better quality glassmanship, and although this is getting into to really high end glassware the quality only goes up with the price. Importing from the UK isn’t as hard as you would think it is and the results are astounding. Your glass shelf units will stand out well beyond the crowd!
